What is the App Store Crypto Hype Index?
Over the years, the crypto market has been onboarding more and more people. With the growing popularity of blockchain, crypto apps have started to appear not only in Web3 but also in normies places like the App Store. In the App Store, apps change their ranks depending on popularity in a certain period of time, which makes it an insightful metric to observe. The higher the rank, the more people search, download, and use the app the more is their interest in the services it can provide.
For our App Store Crypto Hype Index, we choose several trustworthy crypto apps such as Coinbase, Kraken, MetaMask, TrustWallet, Moonshot app, and Phantom Wallet. Depending on their rank changes, we can track the changes in people's interest in crypto, just like the fear & greed index does. However, the Crypto Hype Index provides a slightly different perspective, showing not only the level of activity in the existing crypto community but also how attractive it looks compared to non-crypto apps for the people outside.
Crypto Hype Index Interpretation
Our formula transforms crypto apps App Store ranks into an understandable scale, where 0 means the interest is absent (all apps have dropped to ranks below 200), and 100 means the hype is absolute (all apps have occupied top placements in their categories). For your convenience, we show it as a thermometer with the corresponding number and color.
Red – the interest is very low
Orange – the interest is low
Yellow – the interest is OK
